Autism rarely occurs in isolation. Most autistic adults have at least one co-occurring condition, and several of the most common ones have their own documented effects on dreaming:

Accepting sparse recall: Many autistic people initially report remembering very little. This is typically a consequence of sleep disruption and reduced REM density, not a failure of the journaling practice. Consistency over weeks, and improvements in sleep quality, tend to improve recall.
The autistic dream life is not a neurotypical dream life with things missing. It is a different dream life — organised around the same cognitive architecture that organises autistic waking experience, and containing its own distinctive richness.
